“If while you live you can give someone affection, love and respect — that is the true wealth. Praise after death is meaningless.”
His own wordsHe taught English for thirty-eight years. He began in 1977 as a lecturer at B.N.M.A. College, and taught afterwards at Basudevpur College, at Bhadrak Mahila College, and at Dhamnagar College, which he left in 2015 as its Principal.
What his students remember is the grammar. His command of Nesfield and Wren & Martin was close to total, and he had a way of making a rule plain that outlasted the lesson by forty years. An uncountable number of them still call him ଗୁରୁଦେବ.
Those who could not pay were taught anyway, and where he could manage it their college fees were quietly paid for them. Education, he held, was service and not trade.
Because he thought praise after death was worth nothing, this is not praise. It is a record of what he did, and of what is being continued in his name.
